First and most importantly…I would like take this moment for the creators of Glamapalooza Ladies Take Thornbury, and give them a huge shout out to the organizing committee which does not seem to know that they should be acknowledged for their efforts, making this event happen with their endless meetings in local living rooms, cafes and restaurants. Thanks Ladies! IMG_1690

Glamapalooza is being held Thursday November 24th 2016 in the big town of Thornbury Ontario. This is where local husbands lose their wives and loved ones to pampering, eating and shopping all for an excellent cause “fighting Breast Cancer”. All proceeds go towards purchasing a mammogram machine for the Collingwood hospital. My wife Casey has been on the organizing committee since its inception at Bridges Tavern. Four to five years ago the owner of Bridges Meredith Brown had an amazing promotion through the shoulder season of November. Buy one dinner and get one free, anyway the minds started spinning and the girls with the support of Bridges decided to make a 2 day event calling it Glamapalooza.

The event has grown with a number of businesses that you would not think would fit the business model jumping in. For example a men’s shop Evolution for Men across from The Cheese Gallery has local males showing off their fashion sense in the front windows. Yup after the boys finish strutting their stuff for the gals they come to the poker shack and unwind with a few more local ales and some cards. We get see their battle scars. A couples ago at a now defunct establishment the proprietor thought real live entertainment (male strippers) would be more fitting to get the gals into their establishment. I dont think it worked as the manager quickly left town as the cougars left their mark. The establishment did not survive but it was an interesting effort.

I love the creative marketing ideas that Thornbury businesses think up. For example the local Jeweler The Diamond Studio has created pendents and given away jewellery to support the event.

Birch & Benjamin the local Benjamin Moore paint store has always had fun interactive events. Last year they had adult colouring book class. This year yoga. Reduce stress and increase focus through the art of Zentangle.  Lead by certified teacher Chari-Lynn Reithmeier, small classes will explore the art from beginner to advanced.

Shaun Edmonstone over at the Bruce Wine Bar is stepping right out of the box, rather than wowing the ladies with the regular food wine and music, he is stepping it up with a luncheon and Lingerie Party  with the newest shop on Bruce street Cherchez La Femme I think this might be the one to watch LOL

Over at my favourite shop The Cheese Gallery, My wonderful wife Casey Thomson and her staff always hit it out of the park with their specifically ordered bubbly and wonderful foods. This year they will be doing a limited seating for an afternoon event and as well as their wonderful morning breakfast.

Glamapalooza is about much more….it really is about giving back to your community and supporting local businesses. Lets be honest this is also about creating a great opportunity for local business to survive with sales in one of the most notorious slow times of the year “Shoulder Season.” November can be a brutal time of year for local shop keepers and to create an event that gives back is just brilliant! Without fund raising events like this our hospitals would be still underfunded and in need of these specialized machines. Thanks Ladies!
